While Spa Sophia’s signature hard wax ensures minimal pain and discomfort, a bikini wax is always rough on your skin, and will leave it sensitive for a little while. Luckily there are things you can do to decrease discomfort, and increase the appearance of your skin. Most good waxing salons offer their clients aftercare advice, as well as recommendations in regards to what products to use. But you can also take matters in your own hands. Just follow these bikini wax aftercare tips...

Avoid Heat

Try to avoid contact with heat after your bikini wax. Don’t take hot baths or go tanning beds, steam rooms and saunas. Showers are okay, but try to keep the temperature down. You can also use a cold compress to soothe your skin, and numb any pain.

Avoid Friction

Friction can cause irritation and inflammation, so should be avoided at least for the 24 hours after your wax. That means no exercise, including sexual activity. Also: Don’t wear tight jeans or underwear. Loose cotton undies are the best option. Finally, refrain from touching your freshly waxed skin, as the bacteria on your hands can cause blemishes and inflammation.

Avoid Chemicals

At Spa Sophia we only use natural products that are gentle on your skin. It’s important to continue this practice at home and refrai from using products with harsh chemicals, perfumes, or dyes. Moisturizers are a good idea though, as long as they’re gentle and free of earlier mentioned components. Calendula Redness Rescue Soothing Cream, Hylunia Healing and Restoring Cream and Epicuren Relief Arnica Cream are our personal favorites. Buy them here or get them at the spa. Either way, try to stay away from bars of soap. They leave a layer on your skin which can cause ingrown hairs. If you want to disinfect your skin, use tea tree oil, lavender oil, antibiotic ointment or hydrocortisone cream.


Start exfoliating about 48 hours after you had your bikini wax, to reduce ingrown hairs and keep your skin clear. Don’t use harsh scrubbing materials with chemicals, though, but gentle, natural scrubs. We recommend Epicuren’s all natural scrubs, available at Spa Sophia.

If Issues Still Occur…

If, despite good aftercare, problems still occur after your bikini wax at Spa Sophia, feel free to contact us for advice. Here are some common tips we give: If you experience ingrown hairs, don’t pick at them as this might cause more inflammation. Instead tweeze them and exfoliate regularly. If you still experience redness, bumps, or inflammation after three days, get a topical or systemic antibiotic. Also be aware that other things like STDs might be the cause, so it’s always good to contact your primary care physician.
